Shannon Loughnan

B. Physiotherapy

Shannon was inspired to become a Physiotherapist while on a tennis and academic scholarship in the USA studying Sport and Exercise Science. Shannon loved anatomy and realised that the ultimate career for her would combine her drive to help people with her knowledge of the human body. Thus, Physiotherapy meant she could be involved in a respected profession that provided a meaningful contribution to people’s wellness.

Shannon studied Physiotherapy at the Australian Catholic University in Brisbane, and in her final year of study loved spending five weeks providing paediatric Physiotherapy services to orphanages in Vietnam.

After graduating in 2014, she commenced work in the same Physiotherapy practice in Mudgee where she had previously been a patient and receptionist. Whilst working in Mudgee, Shannon completed her Pilates instructor training in Sydney, female pelvic floor course, and Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) training.

After moving to Bathurst in late 2015 she began working at Bathurst Physiotherapy where she was responsible for establishing the Pilates programme. She has enjoyed facilitating the growth of classes and watching the comradery amongst participants in the clinic over the years.

Shannon has broadened her experience in various areas of Physiotherapy such as weekend sports team coverage, orthopaedic work at the Bathurst Private Hospital and teaching at Charles Sturt University in the Masters of Exercise Science degree.

She has also completed multiple musculoskeletal, sports and pelvic health courses, including Sports Physiotherapy Level 1 & 2, dry needling and women's health courses. Shannon enjoys managing patients in all areas of Physiotherapy and has found her main passion working in the specialty area of pelvic health Physiotherapy.

This has led to her currently completing her Master’s degree in Pelvic Health Physiotherapy through the University of Melbourne. Shannon enjoys providing an empathetic, evidence-based approach to managing pelvic health patients across their life stages for specific conditions related to the pelvic floor muscles.

Shannon enjoys connecting with people through their stories and is motivated to be a high achiever to continue optimising the health and quality of life for her patients.
