Lachlan Balcombe

B. Physiotherapy

Originally from a small sheep stud in Canowindra, Lachlan moved to Bathurst in 2017 to study exercise and sports science at Charles Sturt University. Upon finishing this degree, he looked to further his studies by accepting an offer to study a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the university’s Orange campus. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Lachlan participated in various codes across his schooling and university time including rugby league, soccer, cricket and touch football. It was during his first degree that Lachlan realised he wanted to do much more than just participate in sport. After suffering an injury himself and seeing how a physiotherapist can play a role in returning someone to doing the activities they enjoy, he knew that this was the pathway for him.

While still very much interested in sporting injuries, throughout his studies Lachlan realised there was much more to the physiotherapy world than just sport rehab. He found a new passion for applying his people skills to discover what is meaningful to his patients and how he could use this to develop individualised treatment options. During a placement at Katoomba hospital, Lachlan also found a particular interest in treating patients following orthopaedic surgery, helping them through their rehab journey by treating their musculoskeletal issues with a positive and personable manner.

During the final year of his physiotherapy degree, Lachlan underwent a mentoring program at Bathurst Physiotherapy. It was during this time that he appreciated how Bathurst is fortunate to have a practice with exceptional expertise and experience with advanced equipment within such an impressive facility. The real selling point for Lachlan was the friendly and approachable staff that he now calls his colleagues. He felt that his attitudes and beliefs would be a perfect fit here at Bathurst Physiotherapy, where he is now eager to treat a variety of patients and is excited to delve into whatever challenges are put before him.

In his spare time Lachlan can be found doing anything outdoorsy, playing rugby league, or appearing on TV quiz shows like The Chase.
