Lachie Buttsworth
B. Physiotherapy
Lachie was raised in Bathurst, where he attended Kelso high school and went on to study a bachelor of physiotherapy at CSU Orange. His desire to become a physiotherapist developed in his senior years of school, he loved sport and felt physio was a great way to combine his love of sport with his strong interest in science and the human body.
During his degree, Lachie came to realise that physiotherapy as a profession had a much greater reach than just sports injuries. He developed a passion for the process of guiding people through their health journey. Diagnosing a condition and identifying all the contributing factors allows Lachie to design and implement a rehab program in collaboration with his clients. Sharing the journey with his clients is deeply fulfilling and immensely satisfying.
Initially interested in working in the public system, Lachie was enticed by a mentoring opportunity at Bathurst Physiotherapy in the final year of his degree. After undergoing mentoring at the clinic, it was clear the opportunity to develop strong clinical skills and treat a range of different conditions was best achieved by staying in his home town and working at Bathurst Physiotherapy.
Since taking the position at Bathurst Physiotherapy, Lachie’s interest in musculoskeletal physiotherapy has exploded, finding great satisfaction in working with patients to improve their ability to function without pain and achieve their goals. Lachie has a particular interest in the shoulder area, but also enjoys working with acute sporting injuries, and post-operative conditions particularly of the knee and shoulder.
Alongside working in the clinic, Lachie works with the Scots All Saints rugby teams on weekends. Here his interest in on-field injury assessment and management have developed, with the fast paced style of physiotherapy providing a nice variety from day to day clinical loads.
Lachie also enjoys competing in Ju Jit Su and walking his cats.
